Born and raised in São Paulo, Plínio Fernandes fuses the tradition of classical guitar with Brazilian folk music. For our first concert in Inner Temple's Lecture Theatre, the Decca Gold recording artist presents an evocative programme, featuring pieces by Heitor Villa-Lobos which pay homage to JS Bach and Fernando Sor's guitar showcase based on a melody from The Magic Flute.
The sights and sounds of Fernandes home country are conjured in a wonderful selection of works including Ary Barroso's 'Watercolour of Brazil'. We hear Chilean composer Violeta Parra's beloved and poignant folk song 'Gracias a la Vida'. Fernandes concludes with a popular chorinho which transports us back to Rio de Janeiro: Jacob do Bandolim's 'Assanhado' - all sunshine, syncopation and style!
Heitor Villa-Lobos: Prelúdio from Bachianas Brasileiras No. 4
Fernando Sor: Introduction and Variations on a Theme by Mozart, Op. 9
Heitor Villa-Lobos: Cinq Préludes
Ary Barroso: Aquarela do Brasil
Violeta Parra: Gracias a la Vida
Edu Lobo & Chico Buarque: Biaritz
Jacob do Bandolim: Assanhado
Duration: Approximately one hour (no interval). Tickets include a complimentary refreshment after the concert.
*Please note the change of programme from the originally announced 'Bacheando' programme*
