(Re-)Founded in 1641, the Library is one of the country's most important law libraries, containing over 250,000 volumes including a substantial collection of American legal materials. It possesses more than 9,000 early printed books (including items from John Donne’s personal library) and 300 manuscripts, and is home to the Molyneux Globes as well as a collection of Prime Minister portraits dating from the 18th to 21st centuries. The long gallery layout of the library with high ceiling and mezzanine level makes it an attractive space for music as well as study.
Middle Temple Library is located in the Ashley Building on Middle Temple Lane which can be accessed directly from Fleet Street or Victoria Embankment; from Tudor Street continue straight ahead on Crown Office Row and turn left onto Middle Temple Lane.
