Sacconi Quartet

For twenty-one years, the Sacconi Quartet have been captivating audiences with their unanimous and compelling ensemble, consistently communicating with a fresh and imaginative approach.

The programme for their Temple debut juxtaposes Ravel's youthful string quartet (the effervescent work was Ravel's first major success) with one of the last pieces Mendelssohn wrote. A requiem for his sister, Mendelssohn's powerful quartet blazes with grief. Its Adagio is a profoundly personal elegy.

Roxanna Panufnik’s Heartfelt was commissioned by the Sacconi Quartet in 2019 and is inspired by the heartbeat of a brown bear, as well as drawing on Uzbek and Bulgarian music. The result is a magical addition to the quartet repertoire, “a beautiful, imaginative exploration of that vital, beating organ” (The Observer) and “shot through with a poignancy that is infinitely touching” (Seen & Heard).
